According to national guidelines for breast implants, it is recommended that implants be replaced after 10 to 20 years. In practice, approximately one in three patients undergoes a prosthesis replacement within 10 years, for example due to changes after pregnancy, a desire for a different volume, capsular contracture, or other reasons.
At Gooimeer Clinics, we work almost exclusively with biocompatible nanotexture implants from Motiva, due to their excellent safety profile and very low risk of capsular contracture.
When replacing implants, we almost always use a form of internal bra technique: a method to better support the implants and position them towards the cleavage. This is usually done with the patient's own tissue, sometimes supplemented with a soluble support material.

When the nipple is (well) below the breast fold, a breast lift is usually necessary. Although many women are reluctant to have additional scars, satisfaction with this procedure is very high. You can optimize the nipple position and size and have the shape of the breast completely remodeled.
Because sagging breasts often have volume, but this is not in the upper pole, we combine the lift with an implant that acts as central filling. In combination with an internal bra technique, this creates a natural, well-supported breast shape with beautiful upper pole filling.

Sometimes there comes a time when you want to have your implants removed. Gooimeer Clinics is also the place to go for this, as we have a lot of experience in this area. If necessary, we will remove the entire capsule. If the capsule is very thin, it may be safer to keep it and only treat it.

After removing implants, the breast may become saggier. By combining this procedure with a breast lift—possibly with auto-augmentation—the breast can be reshaped immediately.
To achieve the most natural result possible, we often combine breast surgery with lipofilling. Fat is used to soften the transition between the implant and the breast tissue, particularly in the cleavage area and the upper pole. Fat that remains well vascularised after the first few days will not disappear. We usually harvest the fat from the inner thighs, where even slim women typically have enough fat and the risk of contour irregularities is minimal.
In some cases, liposuction of the lateral breast extension can significantly improve the contour. This creates a slimmer transition between the breast and the torso and a more flattering silhouette in a bra or clothing.
