Armlift

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure performed on people who suffer from excess, sagging, or drooping skin on their upper arms. This can occur after significant weight loss, due to aging, or due to a decrease in skin elasticity. At Gooimeer Clinics, we strive for a natural result that brings the arms back into harmony with the rest of the body. We guide you through the entire process, from consultation to aftercare.

The goal of an arm lift is a tighter, slimmer, and better-shaped upper arm with a natural silhouette.

When is an arm lift suitable?

An arm lift may be an appropriate option when:

  • there is excess or loose skin on the upper arms

  • the arms have lost their firm shape after weight loss

  • exercise and strength training can no longer improve the excess skin

  • clothing feels uncomfortable or the skin is visibly hanging

  • you feel self-conscious about the appearance of your arms


The procedure is intended to improve the shape of the arms and is not a method for weight loss.

Limited arm lift (mini arm lift)

Suitable for mild excess skin around the armpit.
The scar is located mainly within the armpit crease.
Recovery time is usually shorter.


Full arm lift

Used when there is clear excess skin along the entire upper arm.
The incision runs from the armpit down the inner arm, sometimes extending to the elbow.
Suitable after significant weight loss or in cases of pronounced skin laxity.


Arm lift combined with liposuction

Can be combined with liposuction to remove excess fat and further refine the arm contour.
This is only possible when skin quality allows.

The final technique is selected based on what is medically responsible and provides the most aesthetic result.

02 The Consult

During the consultation, you and the doctor will discuss your wishes and expectations. The quality of your skin, the amount of excess fat, and the degree of skin sagging will be assessed. Based on this, a decision will be made as to which technique is best suited to your body. You will receive an explanation about the operation, the scars, the recovery, and the possible risks.

03 The Treatment

The arm lift is performed under general anesthesia and takes an average of one to two hours, depending on the technique chosen and any combinations. The surgeon makes an incision along the lines discussed beforehand. Excess skin and any fat are removed, and the arm is reshaped to a tighter form. The wound is then carefully closed.

04 Recovery

After the operation, you will usually wear special compression garments or sleeves for four to six weeks. These help to reduce swelling and support the healing process.

In the first few weeks, you should avoid putting heavy strain on your arms. Swelling, bruising, and a pulling sensation are normal and will gradually subside. The scars will be visible at first, but will fade over the course of 12 to 18 months.

Smoking and alcohol consumption can slow down recovery and increase the risk of complications.

05 Aftercare

You will return regularly for check-ups. You will receive advice on wound and scar care, such as the use of silicone gel and protection from sunlight. We will also guide you in safely building up your daily activities.

06 Possible risks and complications

As with any surgery, there are risks, including:

  • bleeding or infection

  • delayed wound healing

  • swelling or fluid accumulation

  • temporarily or permanently altered skin sensation

  • asymmetry or contour irregularities

  • noticeable or thickened scars


These complications are rare and usually treatable.

  • When will I see the final result of an arm lift?

    The first improvement is visible quite quickly, but the final result is assessed after a few months.

  • When can I return to work after an arm lift?

    For light work, usually after 1 to 2 weeks. More physically demanding work often requires 3 to 4 weeks of recovery.

  • When can I exercise again after an arm lift?

    Light activity is usually possible after about two weeks. Intense exercise and strength training are typically resumed after six weeks.

  • Are arm lift results permanent?

    Yes, as long as your weight remains stable. Ageing can still affect the skin over time.

  • Where are the scars after an arm lift, and how visible will they be?

    Scars are located on the inner side of the arms or within the armpit crease and typically become less noticeable over time.
